Andrew & Clare McGarva - Ceramics and Textiles

Andrew and Clare McGarva pic

Andrew and Clare McGarva started out working at Wobage but now live and work in Burgundy, France. With the local stoneware clay Andrew produces a range of high fired tableware, brush decorated with help from Clare.

He also makes from their own red clay on site medieval-style two-coloured floor tiles. From the same red clay he recently began making slipware dishes. These styles of dish were made widely in England and Wales in the 18th century and are admired by both potters and collectors for their spontaneous and lively designs. Andrew's dishes continue the spirit of the antique pieces.

Clare hand stitches onto resist dyed indigo linen and hemp cloth to make bed covers and table runners.
