Sheila Herring

Sheila was a professional basket maker for over thirteen years, before changing her path towards clay and fire. In 2009 Sheila received the first grant with the ‘Adopt a Potter’ charity which enabled her to apprentice under Jeremy Steward at Wobage.

Her current pots are predominantly wheel-thrown with some hand-built additions. The work is visceral and impassioned,  combining a kind of abstract expressionism with subtle and robust functional shapes.

She is currently developing a range of functional work using a black earthenware clay body.
