Since Mick and Sheila Casson created their pottery here in 1977, Wobage has seen many professional craftspeople develop their practices in our converted-barn workshops.

Today we are eight makers, creating unique bodies of work with our individual methods and inspirations.

craft courses at Wobage

Countless enthusiastic students have learnt to wheel-throw clay and weave willow with the Wobage Makers.

The throwing studio is a vibrant, creative space during Patia's, Jeremy's and Belle's evening classes and summer courses.

Weave foraging baskets, Catalan platters or a garden obelisk with Clyde, using willow he grows himself at the bottom of the ancient Perry Orchard.

Having met during their ceramics studies in the 1950s, Mick and Sheila started their first pottery and gallery together in London.

Mick Casson co-founded the pioneering Harrow Studio Pottery course and presented his BBC series 'Craft of the Potter', earning an MBE for his contribution to post-war British craft.

A desire to experiment with wood-salt firing drew them to Herefordshire.

Wobage summer pottery schools were attended by professionals and novices from across the world. Mick and Sheila's generous spirit, appreciation of Zen and the Arts and Crafts philosophy inspired many.

In our gallery, you can find Emmanuel Cooper's book Michael Casson, in which you can read much more about Mick's career and legacy.

In May of 2023 we shared the Mick and Sheila Casson Retrospective exhibition, with pots spanning their diverse careers.

It was wonderful to enjoy their beautiful work with long-time friends, practicing artists who were influenced by Mick and Sheila and visitors new to Wobage.
